THE Broadmeadow track does possess remarkable recuperative powers but it is certain to be rain-affected to some degree for The Herald-sponsored race meeting tomorrow, so horses with wet-track form are likely to have an advantage.
Leading Broadmeadow trainer Kris Lees holds a strong hand with chances in the majority of the eight races and Randwick trainer Graeme Rogerson usually has success when he starts horses at Newcastle. On the jockeys front, Linda Meech and Allan Robinson both have solid books of rides. Here is a look at the meeting. Race 1: Not a lot of form to go on here but Mighty Atom (12) was a Randwick trial winner 11 days ago and should run well. Patois (14) was placed in a Randwick trial last month and is a chance. Of the raced brigade Jest Crewsin (4) has been placed in two outings at Muswellbrook and On The Ready (15) only turned in a moderate effort on debut but had been placed in a couple of trials.Race 2: Miss Fascinator (8) has not raced for 147 days but was only narrowly beaten at Broadmeadow two starts back and a repeat of that effort would make her hard to beat. Friskarlie (6) ran a nice race at odds when a close third at Gosford last start. Beebop (4) is a first-starter but has been trialling OK. Miss Diddles (7) has been thereabouts in two starts back from a spell and can show up.Race 3: Magic Clang (10) has been placed at his past two starts at Gunnedah and Wyong, where he did box on OK last start, and he does get his chance to breakthrough here. She's Warrego (2) battled on well when placed at Newcastle on debut and should get a nice run. Noyne Muskat's (6) first-up run was nothing flash, but he did run a couple of nice races last time in. Exquisite (4), from the Peter Snowden stable, is likely to be improved by his debut at Canterbury.Race 4: Miss Chantilly (12) was placed at Newcastle on debut then ran a good race at Scone last start. Run Bella Run (13) has not raced for 164 days but ran some nice races in stronger company before the break. Karinsky (5) has not raced for 12 months but he was placed at his past two outings, at Wyong. Cultivars (2) is a likely improver on his debut effort at Hawkesbury.Race 5: Wollombi Road (5) ran a good race in stronger company last time and is suited here. Klish Klash (2) was unplaced when resuming last start but won a similar-type race at Wyong three starts back. Rebel Prince (4) was safely held last start when first-up from a spell but ran some nice races last time in. Auld Lang Syne (3) is a last-start winner and Rosehill trainer Mark de Montfort's only runner at the meeting.Race 6: Canny Finch (1) won in slow going at Newcastle three starts back and is very adept in the wet. Carry The King (2) has not raced for 117 days but his form before that was sound and he does handle rain-affected going. Dammen (3) is a last-start Kembla winner and Leondari On Ice (4) had good form in Queensland before going for a break.Race 7: This race could develop into a real slugfest, especially if the track is very heavy. Chelmsford (2) is racing well and has been placed in heavy going. Pooties (4) scored at Newcastle three starts back and last time was placed in a stronger race at Randwick. Hip Hop Dancer (1) drew clear for an easy win at Port Macquarie last start and the step up to 2300 metres should suit. Thunder And Rain (5) a stablemate of Chelmsford from the Rogerson yard is racing well.Race 8: Oakfield Dane (3) looks one of the better wagers on the program. He has been placed in both of his runs back from a spell and is a winner in heavy going. Phantom Verde (9) and Forever Grateful (7) are racing consistently and they have also proven they can handle it wet. Hyper Fire (11) scored a strong win at Muswellbrook last start and is worthy of respect.
